Restore Street Lighting Along Kayole–Komarock Road

Over 60% of streetlights along a major residential corridor have been non-functional for more than a year, contributing to a rise in reported muggings and making the area unsafe for anyone commuting after dark. Repairs have been requested repeatedly without result.

What was once a well-lit road is now largely dark after 7pm. Residents who work late shifts, students returning from evening classes, and small traders closing up their stalls all have to navigate long, unlit stretches on their way home. Several residents have reported being mugged or harassed along these exact dark sections in the past six months.

This is a solvable problem. It is not about building new infrastructure — the poles and wiring already exist, they simply need repair and maintenance. Reports have been filed with the county lighting department multiple times over the past year, with no visible follow-through.

We are asking the County Department of Roads and Public Works to conduct an urgent audit of non-functional streetlights along this corridor and commit to a fixed repair timeline, along with a maintenance schedule to prevent this from recurring. Public safety should not depend on how loudly residents have to complain before something gets fixed.
